Quiksilver's summer.

With festival season on as much of a high as the temperatures that make them fun, Quiksilver definitely has their 2011 Holiday collection right on point. Those awaiting Coachella on the other side of the world, take notes.

Although I haven't readily jumped on the crochet train quite yet, my initial theory that patterned peek-a-boo is only for 6 ft tall Roberto Cavalli-ers has dissolved a little with the subtle badassery against feminine colours in these. Shooting the funloving pieces at an actual music festival? Double the winner.

Now I feel like dancing to loud music in a crowd of loud people.

You thought you'd all seen enough of my beloved blouse, oddly braided topknots, and awkward mid-side-step Zoolander moments? Too wrong. Particular appreciation for the blouse breathing space with this ridiculous (slightly awesome) humidity! While I felt a lot like a boy going to the seaside with his mummy some time last century, my newfound acceptance for vintage pants (and my tendency to chop off the legs) is definitely staying.

So are my sleepy eyes over the next two days - I can't say my sleeping patterns have been the most regular. And my coordination is paying (my brother takes that much delight in watching me walk into things :D)

I promise I'll do a hair tutorial for this soon (given the number of comments and emailies!) - though I will warn you that your arms will promptly fall off once you're done :)

University offers come out next week which is a bit strange. Uni has always been far off, and now it's in my face everywhere I go :) WEIRD!

Jannes.

I know I have been promising to post these photos from my shoot with Jannes all week, but every time I went to edit them in any way nothing really worked, resulting in me getting frustrated and putting it off. But this afternoon I decided that, aside from a few black-and-whites, I'd just post the raw images that aren't perfect, but I guess that's a good thing when combined with the insanely sunny afternoon and Jannes' intrigued facial expressions.

The seeing-quadruple thing is actually a vintage lens that my dad found in an old suitcase of his - and while a bit dusty and scratched, the light defraction and lens flare was amazing to experiment with, so you'll definitely be seeing more of that!

It was a bit weird shooting a guy for a change! Styling was definitely a challenge considering my lack of male clothing (uuuh duh) but it worked out.

So as soon as I start raving about the amazing sunshine, it starts raining. That's right. Karma bites. But that's ok because it was cool (and warm) enough for me to pull out the bandaged glory of these Junk jeans for the afternoon, as well as a desertly, foxly, saltbush top that the Stylestalker ladies lent me to share. Such perfect cut-outtery for elbowing people... and waisting people?

Sorry about the uncharacteristic lack of photos! It started raining the minute I went outside to shoot these so aside from an umbrella-ed walk down the road, my bandage-jeans happiness (the best fitting jeans of my life) didn't last too long. See you in Autumn though? :)

P.S. I spent half the day digging up amazing things at Rozelle markets that I can't wait to share!

Somedays Lovin': Jaye Leigo.

As seen lately, I've been a bit of a fan of fresh new label, Somedays Lovin', and its spot on flag-bearing of Australian Summers (which, I must say, I am currently enjoying a decent amount... hate to rub it in :D). With the label's emphasis on imagery, prints and sharp cuts for a pleasant sea change on the frills storming Bondi (not for much longer), designer Jaye Leigo runs a thread of relaxed badassery through the High Summer collection.

Think of it as a cocktail of roadtrips and animal prints that will last you through the seasons if you try hard enough - though, most suitable for too much sun, and introduced to you all by yours truly (Northern Hemispherers, start saving to buy the lot once the snow stops :p)

Can you tell us a bit about how your design work came about?
I’m really lucky to work with some amazing artists, so collaborating with them is my usual starting point & then scratching around for random references and vintage pieces to inspire me.

What is the Somedays Lovin’ vibe?
Relaxed , understated, effortless

The imagery and prints in High Summer certainly define Summer for me – what was your inspiration?
Really drawing from our environment and I always feel Australia as a worn and gritty feeling along side allot of arid beauty so I wanted to tap into that a little

Where do you see you in 10 years time?
Not sure – life’s short.

Which are your personal favourite pieces?
I love the wild horses 1-piece its def my fav!

Who would you like to see wearing your pieces?
Easy: ABBEY LEE.

Back in the Swing.

As much as my brother despises high-waisted, I think the only way to pull off this floral-printed Penny Anne glory is to wasp-waist it with my happy stripes and this morning's beautiful weather that deteriorated into wind and rain towards the end of the day. I've always thought that mixing amazing floral prints with other distractions (i.e. perfectly spaced stripes) is a bit too much visual assault, but this combination was decent enough in the way of Summery relaxation. For some strange reason, this skirt lends itself really well to something of an American Desert mix of jewellery - thoughts?

Finally back on track to my usual ways! 2011 has started in a big way and it feels like it's been months already. Weird. Stylestalker starts back tomorrow so I'll have some things to share, I'm sure, as well as some big projects that involve you guys (wooo) but I can't say anything just yet! What have you been up to in the new year so far?

Supers.

Before Christmas, the lovely Miss Sara had me along to the RetroSuperFutures showings where I fell in love with more pairs of sunnies than is humanly healthy, and marveled at the macaroon pile :)

Given my recent love of the label's ability to capture a relaxed breath out with every season (plus their production of sunglasses that don't, in fact, make me look like fly), I have to say their collections are very much worth keeping up with (New Years' resolution anyone? - let's wear sunnies all year round).

Black Milk Galaxy One Piece - Vintage Cut-offs - RetroSuperFuture Sunnies

Some photos I should have posted a week ago, but haven't managed to get off a friend's computer until now! Billabong asked me to share what I wore the next time I dragged myself out to Bondi, and although I've been a few times since then, this was the first when Sydney's weather was agreeable to say the least.

I'm reasonably obsessed with the galaxy print on this beautiful Black Milk one-piece. I think I was probably the only one on the entire kilometre of Bondi not baring a tummy, but whatever - I have a nebula instead. And I don't have weird tan lines from criss-cross-zig-zag straps that seem to happening at the moment.

Afterwards, we went back to my dear friend's place and pretended to be able to skateboard towards a camera with out screaming and falling over - I always jump off as soon as it starts to get too fast, though there haven't been any epic stacks yet! The most beautiful sunglasses of my life and vintage cut-offs, that have always (secretly) been several sizes too big (secret no longer), were a solid addition for Aussie sun. (Thanks to Manth and Katie who helped take these! I'm not nearly coordinated enough with a skateboard to use a tripod at the same time :D)








As much as I always complain that I wish I were in New York, London, Paris, and every other capital city in the world, I really wouldn't trade mosquitoes and weird tan lines for snow right now :)

And for my first 2011 blog post, Happy New Year to you all! Thank you so much for an amazing 2010 (really - so much love) and I hope you've all had a fantastic start! Lots of exciting things are about to go down right here so get very excited!
