The better best friends.

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

I finally got around to photographing the things (from a few days ago) I'd promised to share. Most evident are the two amazing Tom-Binns-esque necklaces I bought - they are admittedly OTT and perhaps aren't everyone' piece of cake, but then again, neither are Balenciaga booties - so I think I'll manage to put together something that will really set them up.

(Above = me mucking around with the beloved Canon 7D)

Apart from RUSSH (as written about earlier), I also got VOGUE Australia, and a new magazine, to me anyway. KAREN Magazine (based in New Zealand) is almost a book, it's that full of amazing editorials that you could (and I have) stare at for hours because of the incredible paper and print quality, on top of the complicated concepts of all the shoots.

Be sure to take a look.

NYE tomorrow :O

Another thought for all of you: I'm wanting to put together a new blog header for for the New Year. Any ideas?

In the hunt for Summer basics that can double as Winter layers, I have to say, this Alice in the Eve Tee is quite the piece of work. With two days left of post-Christmas sales, I think I'm going to have to snap this one up over any NYE dress.

Givenchy SS10.

Photobucket

I think this would have to be my favourite SS10 campaign - striking cuts, patterns, fabrics and cheekbones go a long way.

Again, the cheekbones.

Photographed by the talented Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, modeled by the equally talented Natalia Vodianova, Simon Nessman, Mariacarla Boscono, Emil Dostovic and Eduardo Calero.

W Magazine in the very early 90s... can't believe it's been almost 20 years since then!

The sun's back out - I couldn't have tolerated a rainy NYE... which somehow got me thinking: does it have to be an NYE dress? Could it be an NYE top and skirt, or shorts to be extreme :)

Thoughts?

I've been on the hunt for the perfect New Year's dress, and wound up, as always, on the AcneStudios website. The cautionary 'tulle not included' on each dress gave me the idea of, perhaps, not buying a new dress, but adding some fun to an existing one with a tulle underskirt.

Thoughts?

What a RUSSH.

Photobucket

Yesterday, we took a stroll to the post-Boxing Day Sales that were happening all around Sydney. Mum bought a lot of glassware (joy), Dad bought several of The World's Best Shammy (apparently), and my darling brother took to the stores and came out with so many things that I haven't even managed to look at them all.

I went to BORDERS and picked up my fair share of magazines (several of which I will write about later) - the most important being RUSSH #32. I had a bit of an issue (pardon the pun) deciding between the Jacquelyn Jablonski (above) and Erin Heatherton (below) covers... but eventually settled for the bright colours.

Photobucket

Upon arriving home (with some other purchases that I still need to photograph), I was talking to my dear friend Jess, who had just drawn me an abstract picture of the Eiffel Tower, which I very much enjoyed. So in return, I sketched one of the Jacquelyn Jablonski shots in the RUSSH Fashion editorial (I can't find the actual picture online at the moment):

And a darker version - it's interesting how lighting can completely change the same facial expression:

Torn up about it.

Photobucket
For a while I've been considering unfinished cut-off shorts. I used to hate the look of them and couldn't understand how anyone could possibly spend money on something that's frayed, but having said that, I recently came across this photo while browsing Cobrasnake (I believe the bodysuit is by Black Milk):

Photobucket

... and it occurred to me that in every ensemble, there is always something that is a bit beaten up and far from perfect - or that may just be my interpretation, since an entire outfit that is completely and perfectly groomed bothers me.

So now, I guess I will be considering them :)

Forever Young.

I have decided that Claudia Schiffer will never age. Just so you all know :) I'm currently reading a 'Perfect Life of Claudia Schiffer' article in Vogue Australia - it's true. She will never wrinkle.

I've lots to share from today that I will hopefully get around to photographing and scanning as soon as possible!

Vogue Paris, 1979.

Gia Carangi by Helmut NewtonGia Carangi by Helmut Newton

In my sleepy wonderings today, I stumbled across the sad biography of Gia Carangi. I've always loved the pictures she took with the likes of Helmut Newton (who photographed this stunning editorial), so I did a bit of digging and came up with this 1979 Vogue Paris editorial of the highest elegance that no model today could ever accomplish in my humble opinion.

Vogue Russia once again :) - her make up is so incredible. Speaking of which, after reading an article over at NYMag, I have decided I really need to invest in a better eye-palette, rather than packing on the foundation to keep the shadow on every single time. Which is the most usable Maybelline palette?

Happy Boxing Day to all: hope all your Christmas Days were good! And enjoy those Boxing Day Sales.

How beautiful are these Marc Jacobs wellingtons? They're so shiny, though, that if I ever had them (sigh) I'd leave them on my desk and stare at them all day and never wear them out in case they got scratched.

And on that Net-a-porter note, I nearly died when I realised that they stock the leather Atacoma wedges by Acne:

Dear Santa.

PhotobucketPhotobucketPhotobucket

I've spent the day baking cookies and biscuits of the most basic and most difficult sort (pinwheels are a killer), and will soon be sitting down for a lovely Christmas dinner. Here's the recipe for the pinwheels - give them a try for New Years' :)

Chocolate and orange pinwheels
INGREDIENTS

250g unsalted butter
1 cup (160g) icing sugar, sifted
1 teaspoon vanilla essence
grated rind of 1 orange
1 3/4 cups (260g) plain flour, sifted
2 tablespoons orange juice
1/4 cup (25g) cocoa powder, sifted

METHOD

1. Beat butter and sugar together with an electric mixer until pale and creamy. Add vanilla essence and rind and mix well. Divide creamed mixture in half, keeping in two separate bowls.

2. Add 1 cup of flour and 1 tablespoon of orange juice to one lot of creamed mixture and mix to form dough. Turn onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently to form a ball. Wrap in plastic and chill for 30 minutes. Add remaining flour, orange juice and cocoa to remaining creamed mixture and mix to form dough. Knead gently to form a ball. Wrap in plastic and chill for 30 minutes.

3. Roll each piece of dough out separately between two sheets of baking paper to form a rectangle about 24cm x30cm. Place orange sheet of dough onto a baking tray, leaving baking paper underneath. Lay chocolate dough directly on top. Chill for 15 minutes.

4. Starting at long edge, roll dough up very tightly, using baking paper as a guide. Chill for another 30 minutes or until very firm.

5. Meanwhile preheat oven to 180°C. Line 2 baking trays with baking paper. Cut roll into 4mm slices and arrange biscuits on prepared trays. Bake for 13-15 minutes, until pale golden. Cool on wire racks.

Tip: When rolling pastry, the rectangles can be smaller if you are finding the dough difficult to handle. The pinwheels, however, look more effective made the size stated in method.

Have a lovely Christmas, all of you!

For a while now I've been thinking about playing with the extravagant-piece-of-jewellery-with-completely-laid-back-clothing idea, and this editorial for Spanish Glamour just confirmed that thought. All S need now is the awesome jewellery part and I'm set. Any ideas?
