I love seeing designers who are intensely passionate about what they do, and Joie Jager of Soixante-Neuf Jewels is just that. Joie one of the most down-top-earth and head-full-of-ideas designers I've ever had the pleasure of talking to, and this really comes through (as I'm sure you'll agree) in 69Jewels' crazy awesome pieces that I have fallen very much in love with.
Great – we are very busy even in these tough economic times, thank God!!!
2. Can you give us a quick rundown of what a day at the studio is like for you?
Our day usually starts out checking on all of our orders and making sure everything is getting made correctly and with the best quality. We get a lot of reorders so we are always scrambling to get those fulfilled and shipped out quickly. We are also working on our website daily, making sure new items are added.
3. What would you describe as the 69jewels vibe?
Laid back, bohemian with a bold vibe.
4. What are you working on at the moment?
Our new hammered rings with stones and a new long filigree ring – it will be beautiful!!!
5. What kind of work goes into designing and releasing one piece?
Just inspiration, and trial and error in design in some cases until we get it right.
6. To you, how important is jewellery to an outfit?
Extremely important – you can take a simple black dress and make it explode with the right cuff, ring or earrings! It changes the outfit completely if you have the right jewelry combo… and shoes!
7. What’s the biggest jewellery trend you see coming through this year?
I see big statement rings as a strong trend.
8. What do you think of the new wave of bloggers coming through?
I love it. It’s taking over even magazine exposure for trends and such. Soon we will be starting one of our own!
9. One of our previous interviewees, Katie (designer at The Cassette Society), would like to know: Do you feel lucky? Well, do you? Punk? ☺
Haha! Nice one. You know what? I don’t feel lucky in the way you may think. I worked very, very hard to get to this point and I followed my heart, and that made the outcome very authentic. My jewelry has been going strong for 11, almost 12, years no. I feel lucky that I found my passion!
10. And last of all, what’s a random question you would like to ask the next interviewee?
What inspired you to start designing?
Thanks Joie! To check out more of 69Jewels, click HERE. And prepare to die a little for want of every single piece. Especially the rings.
