CLEO Carnivale Swimsuit Party.

In advance, I'm apologising for the image-heavy post (and in hindsight for my brief absence from posting yesterday!). I meant to post these a little earlier, but only got my hands on a couple of the shots now, so here they are!

On Wednesday night I had the pleasure of attending the CLEO Magazine Carnivale Swimsuit party, and although we all had one eye on the overcast sky, the celebration the hottest Summer to come was definitely one to remember - what with fire-eaters, dancers and an amazing bikini-clad, water-stomping, crazy-wings-flapping runway show.

It was so wonderful to meet so many inspirational people who've worked so hard to get to where they are now, as well as meeting Roxy and all of the beautiful Sweaty Betty PR girls who pulled the evening together so fantastically (I really don't know how they did it)! Congratulations, also, to Gemma and CLEO for an awesome way to kick off Summer - I officially need to go bikini shopping. I've left it way too late :)

So I guess I'll let the photos speak for themselves!

One of the Girls.

A few weeks ago, Smirnoff asked me to share with you guys what I would wear to a girls' cocktails night, so to speak - but of course that was during my exams and I was in no shape or form to be awake past some baby hour of 8pm (probably not true, but the sentiment is there). And finally, tonight, I went out to a nice dinner with my mother and some family friends so contrary to any skin tight number you might be thinking of, here is me in my security blanket maxi.

Out of all the things in my wardrobe, this dress is probably the one I wear the most - oddly enough, I bought it for an occassion last year and have ended up wearing its simplicity to all sorts of things on the spectrum between late breakfasts down the road in Summer (I am so looking forward to that this year) to coiffed-hair type places (never fear, I don't do the coif). Same goes for the wonderful pow of this clutch. And for my experimentation with opposite colours! Yay orange lipstick.

I've been through phases of wearing only silver jewellery and only gold jewellery and every other weird colour under the sun, but at the moment, I think I'm stuck with silver. I've literally worn my new ASOS ring and La Dama chain three times in the past two days. Solid stuff.





Now that I'm writing this, I think I might actually recycle this entire ensemble for seeing friends tomorrow evening. How organised of me.

Stop slouching.

No leaping around today :) In the few days I've owned them, I've gotten so precious about the flawless leather on these Swedish Hasbeens clogs (thanks to Solestruck.com) that I'll do nothing but walk in straight lines in them. As most of you know, I never did jump on the clog bandwagon while they stormed the runways last season, but these are so beautiful in their own right (and super comfortable at that). The light leather is such a dream for summer. Check out some other fantastic colours that played a decent part in softening my turned back to clogs HERE.

I was pretty glad that I found this door that was the same colour as these equally wonderful shorts lent to me by the wonderful girls of Shilla. It must be the day for breaking down past barriers, given that I haven't been an advocate of harems until I realised that shorts like these don't make legs look half their length like full length pants do. The combination of my favourite pale pastel-type colours, studded khaki and breezy slouch of top and bottom makes for a decent stroll down shady lanes. How have all your weeks been? I've been on a depressing hunt for a formal dress for my formal coming up in less than a month (eep) - where each dress I fall in love with gets progressively more expensive than the last, the latest being this beauty. Sigh, any suggestions?

Behind Lisa.

You all audibly (yes audibly) fell in love with the angelic class in Lisa Brown's work when I last featured her work (HERE) so I thought it fitting that I interview the lovely lady herself about her ethereal designs. As I have mentioned on numerous occasions, Lisa's work has always spoken volumes for Australian fashion for me, with its relaxed, but distinct sophistication. So here we go - once more with feeling :)

Hey Lisa, how’s it going?
Hello :) Great thanks, glad to be featured on your blog!

How did you start out as a designer?
I've always had the desire to have one off, unique pieces but couldn't always afford the things I wanted. Would hunt through op shops to find different things. If they weren't exactly what I wanted, I would cut, slash, bleach etc to get what I wanted. People would always ask me where I got my clothes from and I would make things for people, from there it grew!



What would you call the Lisa Brown vibe?
Relaxed Glamour.

Where do you draw most of your inspiration from?
Mostly draw my inspiration from the fabrics that I source. Also from the 70's and everything vintage.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?
Still working hard for the business, but with more travelling. Being able to find beautiful things from all over the globe and include them in my collections.



Which is your all time personal favourite Lisa Brown piece?
One of the garments I have in my new upcoming Winter collection that we are working on now.

If you could be anyone in the fashion industry, who would it be?
Would have to be someone with an endless budget and who isn't restricted. It would be great to be someone who has full access to machinists, patternmakers, fabrics and embellishments etc. Someone like John Galliano.

One of our previous interviewees, designer Belle of Belle Bijoux, would like to know: What was your personal fashion moment last season?
Would have to our photoshoot for Spring Summer in Byron Bay!

Desert Spot.

Annie Greenabelle Long Sleeve Bodycon Dress - Headmistress Watson Lake Headdress - ASOS Distressed Art Boot

Although I did catch a lot of unflattering angles and inconsistent in these shots, I'll take comfort in the fact that I am absolutely fixated on wearing this little ensemble all through Summer - even if I do wish that I had sunbaked parts of Arizona as a backdrop rather than my favourite corrugated wall (though I suppose jumping nonchalantly wouldn't be quite so easy in Arizona).

Annie Greenabelle's Fairtrade certification and 100% organic cotton dress makes it so much smilier for me to jump around, particularly as I've been such a fan of her work for a while, and the fun spots and sweet scooped back definitely embody the fresh but simple vibe Annie's work is all about. You've probably seen a lot of her work floating around TOPSHOP (tea dresses, come to mama) and this aesthetically and ethically pleasing designer is going a long way, let me tell you. To go with the desert feel of my new ASOS boots (I physically hugged them when they danced out of their little box) is this amazing headdress, made by Jillian over at Headmistress. After trying to help a friend with some feathers for a school design project, I now truly appreciate Jillian's talent in fashioning amazing feathered pieces. I'll definitely be showing more of this beautiful headdress (the rustic colours and perfect gold and leather details get me every time) so keep your eyes peeled for some feathery goodness HERE - particularly if you have a secret love of feathered rings and general badassery.




I'm still so sore from the walk - tennis this morning was such a battle! Some exciting things happening this week - will keep you posted. Literally (but only on twitter and Bloglovin' :p)

Rachel Antonoff.

Rachel Antonoff's latest Spring collection struck me as a beautifully pure tight-rope between childhood naïveté and a certain elegance that only comes with Lanvin heels. I love that Rachel's slightly vintage inspiration isn't overwhelming - rather, the subtleties in shape make room for the friendly tones and prints (the grey and white fine geometric print is my favourite!) and some brights that never fail to appear on any international street when the weather warms up. Not only that, but this is probably the most wearable Spring collection I've seen in a long time!

Dust.

Goodness me! I've been so scatter-brained today and here I am saying that this blog is taking off after exams! Today Katie and I set ourselves the challenge of walking across Sydney (no really... 30km) with pistachios as supplies and some dodgy Google Maps directions (we got by more effectively on the kindness of strangers). Long story short, we're really not looking forward to waking up in the morning with burning legs, but it was worth it, with lots of detours to see friends along the way.

Irrelevant to any of these photos :) This is a similar colour palette to what I wore to an interview on Wednesday, but it got warmer in the afternoon so I changed into this beautiful Lola vs Harper top that is the most perfect dusty pink for making daisy chains in fields. Lola vs Harper is a gorgeous new label that you guys should definitely be keeping tabs on HERE - I have so many amazing pieces to share with you, that I know you'll all love, so keep your eyes peeled! I still have to find myself a field, but in the mean time I can entertain myself with the gorgeous cross back on this piece with the equally awesome YesStyle jersey maxi (unfinished hems are back in town).

I'll need to be showing you all better shots of this incredible ring by Does Not Equal (greatest label name ever). It's like a double finger cross ring, but asymmetrical and only single fingered so you don't feel like you've broken a finger with a monster bandage on. Or something. I know - my post title is shamefully unoriginal. But hopefully your enjoyment of my odd little annotations will make up for that? I'm thinking it's become pretty evident that I have a weird photographic obsession with jumping... but I swear this is the highest you'll ever see me leap because baby I am done with high school for EVER. I did my last exam today and I don't think it's hit me quite yet, but hey - you've an outfit post to prove my celebration don't you?

A slightly differently cut maxi today, thanks to YesStyle.com.au, and surprisingly, I really love it. A far scream from skintight, but not the floaty cloud I'm used to either - a perfect midway for celebratory afternoon tea with mother (with the most amazing lacey-uppy back of all time - reminds me of my favourite Lucky 13 tee that I need to wear more often). These amazing shoes from Report are the closest thing I'll ever get to hardcore in summer without busting out the studs! Next time I wear them I swear I'll share the colour - the khaki vs. brown leather is heavenly. For all you Northern Hemispherers, Report has some pretty hot Fall foot-love happening at the momento (I've been eying off 500 of them :p) so be sure to check them out HERE.

Ethereal glow.

I'm so sorry I missed out posting yesterday! I was busy eating my Economics textbook for the exam this morning, so I'll share this with you now before I take to my Chemistry one with a knife and fork.

Alana Patience is the fresh-minded spirit of Summer behind this amazing swimwear label, Daughter of the Gods. Such a perfect name too! Can't you imagine her running around all day in amazing swimwear then going home to a giant fluffy cloud and chilling with Zeus? I made that up. But are you feeling the vibe? I love the slightly vintage, but very emotive way that Alana has gone about embellishing her bikinis without going overboard - the first one is such a funloving take on a classic. It's so fantastic to see swimmers that make you actually want to jump around on the beach: a credit to Alana's incredible embellishments.

It will happen. As soon as Sydney weather stops being supremely bipolar.
