Formalities.

After much poking from a good number of you beautiful people, here are some photos of my formal/dress/hair/dancing/friends/whatever-else-you-wanted-to-see :) Be warned - a longer-than-usual post!

I wore this beautiful Rachel Gilbert dress with a huge thank you and eternal hugs and kisses to Rachel Gilbert and the beautiful girls over at Sweaty Betty PR ( I know - I died when I found out too). I felt so special wearing the mindblowing dress from the SS10 collection with Miss Rachel's signature beading and generally-exuding-awesomeness (there will be tears tomorrow when I must part with it :p).




Here's to floating on a cloud all night. Cliché. So true. No words, friends. No. Words.



The incredible Jo at Cristiane's somehow managed to do this.

Margaret: I think I'd like something with a fishtail braid.
Jo: I haven't done a fishtail braid in 5 years - but we'll see what we can do.

Amazing. Jo, I will eat you and your talent.





So, another grand thank you dance for the Betties and Ms Gilbert, and to my awesome year group - it was a bit sad that it was our last function all together!

You can probably stalky-stalk some more from the event photographer like this, this and this one, though I'm not a fan of her lighting :) I'll probably get a hold of some more photos within the next couple of weeks too, so keep an eye out on Twitter! Lisa Brown.

When the lovely Miss Alana from over at Lisa Brown sent me these lookbook shots, I had heart palpitations. If that's allowed to be used in this context. My weakness for chiffon and sheers, and anything that floats, is no secret - so I was dying like Rachel Zoe. I've always been a fan of the way Lisa's designs flow and how the colours compliment the dreamy atmosphere. Not to mention how stunning this girl is.







Note - that Poppy dress (number 2) comes in like 500 bagillion beautiful colours... I need them all!

S U B F U S C O.

SUBFUSCO is a label that I've been admiring from afar for a while now, so naturally, I was absolutely thrilled to interview the creative mastermind behind this (relatively) newcomer - the very talented Josh Scacheri. Often, I just fall in love with the concept of a designer's collection which doesn't make me want to buy any of it - just replicate the mood in my weird little way. But the shapes and movement Josh manages to get into his work is just a bit mindblowing and I love with every single piece. That, friends, makes an amazing collection :)

Hi Josh, how’s it going?
Things are good – loving the sunshine right now! I think the whole country’s been re-energised with the warmer weather – Winter is so un-Australian, haha.

Can you tell us a bit about how SUBFUSCO came about?
I lived in Italy for a while; well 7 years to be exact, many of my friends work for companies like D&G, Gianni Barbato and Cesare Paciotti, so I was really inspired by their work, lifestyle & way of fashion. I started to work with footwear for an Italian company who made these shoes, so my friends were designing them and we were making them so it was born there I guess. Not knowing at the time, but when I did come back to Australia I wanted to do something creative and my Italian journey & friends inspired me to do that. Subfusco was launched while I was still at Fashion College and was really fun. The name is a Latin word which means .of a dark, or somber colour

What is the SUBFUSCO vibe?
Minimal, clean fresh design lines that captures an essence of design which gives pleasure to the mind and soul. Subfusco is all about Australian comfort with a European edge.

I love the futuristic looks in your latest collection – what was your main inspiration?
‘Luminous’ is the conclusion of a 3 part story which started back in summer 2009 entitled “Collective Species”, it was a journey of a new species of human that have arrived on this earth to discover and save. The ‘Luminous’ collection was all about these two species lightening the new world and giving it love, hope & purity. Our head stylist Tanja from IDcouture and the team like to style the collections in a directional way, it’s like painting a canvas and exploring the limits by adding elements. The cool thing about Subfusco is that when you break it down, it’s such an easy to wear label, tying back with so many other other things in the collection and also your wardrobe.

Where do you want to be in 5 years time?
Traveling the world for inspiration all the time and living between Australia and Europe.

Which is your all time personal favourite SUBFUSCO piece?
That’s a tough question, like my whole wardrobe consists of only Subfusco, so ummm….. maybe the mesh blazer from this season or the amazing knitted poncho we have done for next Fall.

If you could have any one person in the world where your pieces, who would it be?
For the ladies, Lady Gaga and for the men Johnny Depp. (that’s for my girlfriend)

Our last interviewee, designer Belle of Belle Bijoux, would like to know: What was your personal fashion moment last season?
Oh, it was the launch of our Spring/Summer collection, we had a crowd of 600 people come along and we did the runway in this old chain factory. It was really well put together and we had a blast. You can check it out on Youtube HERE.

I thought I'd herald the weekend by sharing my favourite pieces from Talulah's Summer collection - available in stores from October 25 (can't wait), but you can pre-order from the website. This collection has the most beautiful sense of understatement and relaxed sunny days in a shady spot wearing vintage sunglasses. Embracing the trends of the decade, short hems get shorter, long hems get longer, and the harem takes a team extreme - I'm so obsessed with that bright print! My favourite is the above jersey skirt though - I've been looking for something as casually textured, but wonderfully detailed, as this forever! A wear-to-death for sure.

And I'm loving the model's balayage and centre part! Might have to try that (the centre part - I could never do a balayage).

Dear Jean.

To Hermès It May Concern:

Being caught up in my world of study and artful daydreaming, I have not been quite as frequent (at all) in reviewing the international runways as is usually the case. So, on the final day of Fashion Month (so to speak), I thought I would begin with my favourite.

So, I write to appreciate the pure Hermès-ness of Jean Paul's latest and last design efforts for Hermès SS10/11. Just as I loved the equestrian dressage corps marching around under chandeliers, the smooth transitions that followed, between different cuts, colours and textures, demanded attention to detail and so an overall sharply glamorous collection. While the show did echo elements of last season's Sherlock Holmes, the subtle layering and accessories (namely body harnesses) set it apart on a wonderfully transeasonal trajectory.

This may or may not have been helped by the fact that these shots are taken on film (and I happen to be on the hunt for a good old school film SLR). Regardless, you have fueled my penchant for blazers, bright red, skinny belts, high-waisted wide-leg trousers with tailor creases, sheer chiffon of the floaty variety, and leather.

I'm also starting to think that MOSCHINO could, perhaps, learn a thing or two about the use of runway hats from you. Just saying.

Keds & Sperry.

This afternoon I was lucky enough to stop in at the Keds & Sperry Spring/Summer 10 Showings at TOKONOMA (yummm) where I was suitably in love with the whatever-I'm-cooler-than-you vibe of both new shoe collections. In hindsight, these photos probably could have been in colour to show off the eye-popping Keds and chilled Sperrys (sounds a bit like Ben & Jerry's :O) - but maybe black and white is a bit more I'm-cool-what-of-it? I'm going to stop with the hyphens now!

Having rambled, I really enjoyed being there, and it was so lovely meeting the gorgeous Sweaty Betty PR girls (below)!! Be sure to check out more of Keds HERE and Sperry HERE! Just in time for Summer adventures too! Flats like these are probably the hardest shoe to go wrong with.

Stolen Girlfriends Club: Heavy Petal.

You're all more than a little familiar with the Southern Hemisphere big name, Stolen Girlfriends Club, who, season after season, sends the industry in to a flurry of down-on-my-knees type love for their incredible concepts and the sharpness with which they're executed. This latest 'Heavy Petal' collection, kindly sent through by Luke, is so much of a non-exception that I was beaming for the rest of the day after seeing these.

So, given my nude palette obsession as evident in my last post, how could I not love them?

Love is an understatement. Layering if sheers and textures is not. Same story for the cuts, and a fairytale twice the length for the colours. How gorgeous are those peachy beiges? And these are just my absolute favourites.

The vibe is exactly on point. Margaret is in love and will do a cartwheel in the middle of George Street to own every one of these pieces :)

Evil Twin SS10.

With the combination of uptown street-roamer, downtown party party times, and the vintage hippie that takes over a bit of all of us when warmer weather rolls around, the essentially Aussie element of scuba ties Evil Twin's newest collection into something mercilessly reflective of their comfortingly familiar vibe. As badass as it is :)

I don't know what it is about this scuba mini-trend sprinting through, but I really like the instant versatility it brings to whatever piece it graces - particularly that first body con skirt above. The zipper does it for me.

I can never get quite enough of the boxy cropped tee either, and had been trying to decide whether I need some more to get me through record highs in the coming Summer. Again, converted by Evil Twin - my plan to live the Summer in dresses has failed without even starting. Instead, I'm wearing flatteringly-cut skirts, bowler hats, and rocking it all at the beach for no reason at all.

MOK THEOREM.

I just wanted to share my absolute favourites from the lookbook that Grace and Gloria of Mok Theorem sent through. You all know how much I love it when an Australian label starts the journey to the top, and Mok Theorem is one of those - this combined with the Mok sisters' amazing eye for texture versus colour makes for a newly groundbreaking collection (with some absolutely amazing lookbook photography, might I add!).

Personally, I find all the textural mixups in this collection amazing - I wouldn't be looking quite as serene as the model if I were wearing that leather bustiered dress (picture Margaret swirling and falling over in layers and layers of amazing chiffon), and those white twist trousers are pretty exciting :)

So bright, it's illegal.

SpinDizzyFall Vintage Sunglasses - Lime Crime Lipstick in 'Retrofuturist' - Junk Clothing Floral Cutout Dress

I've been searching for a perfect fire engine lipstick that doesn't look like plastic (as they tend to do), and this suitably eye-popping shade thanks to Erica over at Lime Crime has, thankfully, ended that search - one can only take so many testers in a day, and I do hate how makeup counter tissues fasten themselves to your lips and leave the equivalent of lint all over the place. Not cool. Lime Crime also has some other amazing colours for you to check out - warning that your eyes get a bit watery from impact :)

And what better way to celebrate this perfectly textured lipstick than to pull the PRADA SS10 that I've been meaning to do for a while - it was probably my favourite SS10 collection. Aside from Miu Miu's shoes. But they're all the same family anyway :) Nonetheless, I think I've captured the movement (with a bit of bonus mucking around) that I was so obsessed with in that campaign - next stop is to own those lucite shoes (... yeah right).

You're going to have to excuse my flicky-out layers that are 1) impossible to de-flick and 2) impossible to fake a fringe with, but I think the monochrome floral print and heart cutout on this Junk dress makes up for that. It's probably as close as I'm ever going to get to owning the amazing digital prints of that PRADA collection too, so that's always a plus!

Another thing to ignore are my slightly swollen cheeks - my wisdom teeth have chosen a really inconvenient time to start kicking my gums (yummeh) so it's a tad painful.
