Vintage is definitely on the rise and not about to disappear any time soon! Not in my wardrobe anyway - so you guys can all bail, and I'll still be sifting through piles of stuff at markets and opshops.
But here is all the more reason to stick with the vintage, friends! Not only is the tiring hunt eliminated (awesome), but also: there is an amazing sense of being one-of-a-kind in what the lovely Ellin finds, having just started up her online vintage store Covet Vintage Co.
Browsing through all the pieces she has found for us amazed me, especially in that so many specific things that I've been hunting for in retailers of now, were right there - so either Ellin or Covet Vintage Co. is reading my mind. Either way, I'm liking it, and was pretty excited to be able to get some more insight into some of the action:

Covet Vintage Co. is about:
Covet Vintage Co. is all about covetable vintage pieces! It’s a collection of seasonal trend items and timeless classics with the aim of having a piece of vintage love for everyone. It's not about the 'hunt', because sometimes it’s easier when someone has uncovered the gems for you. Covet Vintage Co. intends on redefining the vintage shopping affair.
Starting Out:
Covet Vintage Co. started for a combination of two reasons:
1. My secret and burning desire to own my own fashion related business.
2. The lack of a relevant, accessible and edited online vintage source.
1. My secret and burning desire to own my own fashion related business.
2. The lack of a relevant, accessible and edited online vintage source.
The Covet Vintage Co. vibe is relaxed, easy and non-intimidating. I live and operate the business from the Northern Beaches in Sydney, and i think the Covet Vintage Co. vibe is result of this atmosphere. The collection itself, due to being heavily edited, makes it so much easier to find a piece of vintage that will work with anyone's wardrobe.
The Love per Piece
The Love per Piece
It all starts with a lot of research! Trend forecasting (my favourite part, which includes reading magazines, fashion and street style blogs, analysing runway shows etc) is as important as continually researching the history of fashion, not only to be able to identify those 'classic' vintage pieces, but also to ensure our customers are receiving nothing but genuine vintage. After the research, is the buying and sorting. Whether stock is acquired individually or in wholesale lots, each item is then judged on the merits of originality, quality, trend alignment and above all, desirability. I'd say only about 20% of sourced stock passes the Covet Vintage Co. test. Oh and then there is the photography, descriptions, measurements, uploading etc.

Covet Vintage Co. this Winter:
I'm currently on the hunt for: fur, leather, capes, mock croc, chunky knits, leopard print, ankle boots, blazers, navajo, velvet and embellished cardigans. The list is growing every day!
I'm planning on introducing menswear as well as gifts and a section on the website dedicated to designer pieces. I'm being asked constantly about menswear, so would love to expand into this category. Also, along the way I find so many gorgeous vintage bits and pieces: porcelain figurines, books, trinket boxes etc which I hope to collate into a little collection for the online store. And then there are the designer pieces... I currently have a few designer items hiding throughout the store, but I would like to create and grow this very deserving category.

It excites me that someone made memories in the clothing and I always try and think of what kind of person lived their life in it and what they would have done haha!
